Oxford Dictionary defines a trellis as “a framework of light wood[en] or metal [bars,] chiefly used as support for fruit trees or climbing plants”. Consider sprucing up your outdoor space with a trellis variant such as one of the below.

  • TRASH TOP TRELLIS: Cover your garbage area outside with roses or the like. You can utilize your discarded food parts for compost, to keep your garbage containers cleaner inside. You may rather or additionally put one up over your pool heater.

  • TRIP THE LIGHTS: Add strings of lights to your trellis to complement the plants with a glow after dark.

  • TRAIN TRACK: Use a miniature railroad with some splits or holes or other evidence of abandonment, topped with a toy train (or with a toppled runaway in sight).

  • DOWNSPOUT DRAPERY: Cover your gutter with a curved metal trellis to beautify the mundane auxiliary structure.

  • RECYCLE MATTRESS SPRINGS: Just prop it up.

  • ISOSCELES TWIGS LADDER: Fashion a tall triangle made up of dead tree branches for sides and rungs and stand it up in a corner.

  • ACCORDION COAT RACK: Add a slat to one end to extend it vertically into the pot.

  • STRETCHED SLINKY: Place a stretched out slinky around an upstanding (or curved) pole, maybe topped with a birdhouse.

  • LADDER: Use a ladder (in any of the various forms) as a trellis. If the rungs can hold objects, consider adding some to give the plant(s) more to hold on to.
